PIRATE SHIPS

Were as pirate ships?

Pirate ships were to be swift, well-armed and low keel to sail close to the shore when they attacked the coast. The tripulacione was more numerous than those of merchant ships often, so many of their ships could be crowded.

The pirates were engaged in stealing and the more the better. Their prey were usually heavy merchant ships, laden with all kinds of riches.

To be able to catch they used light boats, since they do not transport goods, unless the stolen loot.
And the speed was essential for them, much of his time was devoted to the preservation of the ship.
Not begin too large ships and not wanting to take too much weight, evoiding heavy guns. Most of their guns were light and used mainly to clear the cover of the ship assaulted.

Most common types of vessels:

2) BALANDRA: Used by the filibusters by its speed.

3) PINNACE: Very fast especially to transport of pirates to the ship or area to attack.

4) MAN OF WAR: English construction equivalent to the spanish galleon, a large as 800 tons.
